Our U16 girls played their league opener yesterday in Cork, with an impressive win on the road!
The girls took on a combined Dolphin/Midleton/Youghal at Dolphins pitch at Musgrave Park, in breezy conditions and we’re off the mark within minutes scoring the opening try with a successful conversion.
The girls found their feet fast showing their skills and tenacity, refined in no small part to the superb training sessions under the coaching of Diarmuid O Malley and Josh Whelan. Their ever present guidance aiding them as they defended against any attempts by the opposition to score a try.
Killarneys tackling was both rapid and precise and held off all attempts to get over the try line. Minutes before half time Killarney scored another try under the sticks, which was also converted.
The second half began, and the hosts came out determined to show they meant business. Minutes later they they scored a well earned try, which only fired up Killarney more who quickly responded with another try and conversion.
Our girls continued relentlessly. With tackling, rucking and even an excellent maul they held Dolphins/Midleton/Youghal well away from our try line.
Cheered on from all the supporters the final whistle blew to see Killarney U16 girls successfully winning their first league game of 2021.

A tough decision by the coaches who felt that all the girls have a superb performance but Killarney’s player of the match was Ali O’Donoghue with a super all round performance given.
A big Thank you to Dolphin/ Midleton/Youghal for hosting us and their wonderful hospitality afterwards. It was much appreciated. Also a big Thank you to the coaches Josh and Diarmuid and all those that came to support the Team and most importantly the Girls for their fine display of Rugby.
Training continues on Wednesday evening at Aghadoe (7pm) and new players are more than welcome to join us. No experience necessary. For details contact Anne on 086-3125722.
