We've agreed with our chosen contractor - ProGolf - that works on the pitches will start on 5th July at the latest. The work is expected to take 3 to 4 weeks (weather permitting)
Contractor
ProGolf are currently working on the installation of the new 4G pitch at Musgrave Park, Cork
Consultant
We're grateful for the advice and guidance of Simon O'Hara in our discussions with the contractor. Simon is currently Superintendent at Cork GC. He was previously assistant Superintendent at Fota Island GC. Simon has an MSc in Sports Surface Technology from Cranfield University, UK, and lectures on Greenkeepng and Sportsturf management at CSN College, Cork.
Scope
The agreed plan of work is to improve the drainage on the main and minis pirtches (the existing training pitch at the far end of the site is not included in this stage due to cost factors).
ProGolf will install following:
6 inch/160 mm drainage pipes at 8 metre intervals. These will run laterally along the length of each pitch (tryline to tryline effectively and will be laid on top of the existing 3 inch/80 mm drains that were originally installed) .
3 inch/80mm drainage pipes at 5 metre intervals. These will run transverse (across the pitch from touchline to touchline) .
Slit drains at 1.5 metre intervals also running transverse (touchline to touchline). These are narrow cuts in the pitch filled with sand/gravel.
After drainage works are completed the existing thatch (top layer of grass) will be removed from both pitches and ProGolf will spread the surfaces with Wexford sand before re-seeding.
Timeline
Works on the pitches will start on 5th July latest. The work is expected to take 3 to 4 weeks (weather permitting). Pitches are expected to be playable in 6-8 weeks after completion of works.
