Killarney U18 - Pan Munster Round 2 vs Tralee - Killarney 35 Tralee 5
After a hiatus caused by the cancellation of 2 fixtures due to weather, the boys got back on the road with a win over Tralee. We opened the scoring almost straight from the kick off with a try from Bryan Walsh, who successfully converted his own score. Arthur Gabbett added a second try before Tralee responded with a successful penalty. Gearóid Sugrue replied with a penalty for Killarney. Our third try came from an overthrown lineout by Tralee which Dylan O'Brien retrieved. Tralee ended up conceding a penalty which was taken quickly by Gearóid Sugrue - with Tralee defence in disarray Alex Sheahan broke through to score. Bryan Walsh converted to leave us 19-3 ahead midway through the 1st half.
Tralee took a second kick for goal after 30 mins to reduce Killarney's lead to 19-6. Our third try came close to half time from a lineout on the Killarney 22 - a line out maul sucked in defenders and Alex Sheahan broke off the back and ran half the length of the pitch to score. Gearóid Sugrue converted to leave Killarney 26-6 ahead at the break.
Some time had passed in the 2nd half before Killarney added to the tally - Shane O'Sullivan squeezed the ball over the line from a close in ruck. The next try came after a weak clearance kick allowed Killarney to work up the field on the narrow side - Bryan Walsh claimed a cross field kick and was able to slip through a tackle to score. Gearóid Sugrue converted.
Another score soon followed form the kickout - Walsh found a gap and raced from 22 to 22 - caught on the 5m line, the ball was hacked on, Jack Gabbett gathered and offloaded to John Sexton - and although tackled short of the line he was able to pop the ball to the supporting Gearóid Sugrue to score. Gearóid converted his own score. Gearóid Sugrue then added a second try forcing his way over form short range after a series of attacking rucks had sucked in most of the defence. Bryan Walsh converted the try. Final score was the hat-trick try from Alex Sheahan.
