Our u18 Killarney/Iveragh/Listowel girls made the trip to Kanturk for round 3 of the league. The game was played in near perfect conditions which allowed the girls to play to their strengths in getting the ball wide creating and scoring some wonderful tries after an initial slow start.
The forwards carried hard against a very big and physical Kanturk/Mallow team that made it clear from the outset that they are up for any challenge. We managed to get good front foot ball with multiple carries up front that allowed us to get into scoring positions throughout the first half.
Our defence was holding strong until the final few minutes in the 1st half when Kanturk/Mallow managed to put us under pressure with quick passing and good attacking play out wide culminating in a very good score. Although we head into half time with a commanding lead we knew we weren't at our best and we needed a big response from everyone in the second half.
The girls didn't disappoint and delivered a much improved 2nd half with more cohesion and some excellent defensive displays all round. We managed to hold off wave after wave off attack only to score some scintillating tries from turnover possession. Overall it was a good performance with a much improved defensive effort that allowed for the win.
A big thank you to Kanturk RFC for a tough but enjoyable match and for being great hosts on the day.
