Weekend Results Round - 27/28 January

BoI Munster Cup U16 - Group 3 - Killarney 18 Midleton 5

Killarney made it 5 out of 5 on Saturday and completed a double over Midleton. Two tries from Liam McCarthy and a penalty from Cathal Sugrue gave Killarney a 13-0 lead at half-time. A third try - from Cian Stack - after a smart break from Arthur Gabbett saw Killarney open up an 18-0 lead. Midleton fought hard and a prolonged defensive shift saw them keep Midleton out. Midleton finally broke their duck as time ran out to leave the final score at 18-5.

We travel to Skibbereen on Saturday for the final group match but both teams have qualified for the knock out stage

BoI Munster Cup U18.5 - Group 4 - Killarney 29 Midleton 5

Killarney U18s also faced Midleton knowing that a win would put them through to the knock out stages. You can read a full account of the match here ....and Bryan Walsh's 2nd try can be seen here

The black marks were injuries to Alex O'Leary, Scott Carlton, and Stephen Dalton - we wish them all swift recovery.

Due to a rake of injuries and a number of players away on a schoool trip - we decided to concede the final group game vs Bandon on Saturday. What these lads and their coaches have achieved with a small squad is remarkable.

BoI Munster Plate U14 - Young Munster 21 Killarney 5

A slightly unbalanced scoreline doesn't really give tell the full tale, but the experience of the trip and the step up in level will stand to our lads.

Young Munster started brightly but we came back into the game and we could have opened the scoring but James O'Brien was held up over the line. Young Munster then scored the opening try when a clearance kick was charged down. We responded by pinning YM back and James got his try at second time of asking. A missed conversion left Young Munster ahead by 7-5 as we neared half time. Shortly before half-time we allowed a breakaway try that allowed YM to go into the break 14-5 ahead.

In the second half, things were equally even but Young Munster got a third try from a cross field kick as we defended too narrowly. We pushed hard to get back into the game but the two teams cancelled each other out and no further score ensued. Despite the score, a good performance and something to build on as Thurles visit on Saturday
