Round Up

Saturday 27 January

U14s Boys maintained their unbeaten record in the West Munster League with a win over a much improved Abbeyfeale team. Score was 5-5 at half time and but an improved 2nd half with two tries for Ryan Vickers and a try by Donncha Murphy saw us open up a lead of 20-5. Abbeyfeale came back with a second score but were not able to close the gap.

Next match - away to Listowel Sat 4th Feb at 12h30

U18.5s Boys had a narrow loss to Kinsale despite only starting with the bare 15 and an early injury brought them down to 14 until reinforcements arrived at half -time. The lead changed hands throughout the game. Early on Killarney led 7-5, but went behind to a second Kinsale try. Kinsale extended their lead to 15-7, before Killarney replied to reduce the lead to 15-12. A Kinsale penalty had them 18-12 ahead but a converted try gave Killarney back the lead 19-18. Kinsale were able to to respond with a a fourth try - successfully converted - which gave them what turned out to be an unassailable lead.

Next match - away to Bruff Sun 5th Feb

Sunday 28 January

U16s Boys travelled to Clonmel looking to break their duck in this competition. For the first time, we had the boon of an MAR refereee in an away match. Killarney dominated proceedings early on - but were unable to get the scoreboard moving until a neat move by the backs put winger Cathal Sugrue away to score in the corner. The difficult conversion was unsuccessful, as was a penalty attempt just before half time. Killarney started second half with a narrow 5-0 lead despite having overall dominance. Bryan Walsh opened the scoring with a try in the left corner midwasy through the 2nd half, but another failure to slot an admittedly difficult conversion attempt left us narrowly ahead at 10-0 with sufficient time remaining for Clonmel to get bacl into the game. A second try by Bryan Walsh brought us out to 15-0 ahead with 5 minutes remaining and put the result beyond doubt. What looked like a 4th try by GearĂ³id O'Connor was chalked off after touch judge Feargal Courtney nobly advised the ref of a knock forward that he had missed in the build up.
